The mission of the Montessori Middle School is to provide opportunities for adolescents to gain self-knowledge, belong to a community, and learn to be adaptable, while empowering them with academic competence and a vision for their own future. The Montessori Middle School is designed to usher healthy, self-confident, well-prepared young adolescent students into the next phase of their development. The curriculum is designed as a two-year program for 7th and 8th grade students. In all academic subjects, students do personal and group work integrated by overarching themes. The focus is on asking large questions, researching, interpreting and connecting all of the disciplines.

Language instruction occurs in every subject area, in addition to the formalized work in the language arts. The students develop confidence in self-expression using Socratic dialogue, oral presentations, debates, drama, video, essays, poetry, and short stories. The curriculum also explores literature through genre study, interpretation of text, vocabulary and word origins.

In Social Studies the focus is on history through Forces (Revolutions), Structures (Forms of Government), Power (Human Rights), Changes (Industrial Revolution), Balance (Peace Education and Future Vision), Connections (Native Americans), Exploration (Explorers), Identity (Immigration), Systems (Economic Systems), and Interdependence (Social Problems and Action).

The Physical Science curriculum includes the study of Forces (Motion and Fundamental Forces), Structures (Matter and Atomic Structure), Power (Power, Energy, and Waves), Changes (Work and Machines), and Balance (Alternative Energy and Future Technology). In Life Sciences, students study Connections (Cells and Living Things), Exploration (Domains and Kingdoms), Identity (Genetics), Systems (Animal Systems), and Interdependence (Ecosystems and Interconnection).

In Mathematics, the students use higher-order thinking skills to solve problems in relation to a variety of challenges, from practical money transactions to algebraic relationships. The curriculum also explores in-depth numbers, properties, simple equations, higher measurement, computer calculation and graphics, geometric proofs, and algebraic equations.

Artistic learning is integrated through the disciplines, and presents individual artistic areas of painting, acting, singing, composing, photography, dance, and sculpture, and includes a general education for aesthetic literacy. There are daily opportunities for self- reflection and personal growth.

Middle School students apply and integrate all subjects through work on and with the land. They engage in elements of farming as an economic enterprise through the care of plants and animals, the maintenance of simple machines, and the understanding of land use. They also participate in local internships, class businesses, and community service. Student elective courses are offered and vary each year with student interest and availability of outside teaching resources.
